Power Road®, the road to the future

On October 16 this year, Eurovia, a VINCI group company, launched the implementation process for its innovative product – a road that “produces” thermal energy. This is another milestone in the creation of eco-friendly cities of the future.

Power Road®, as Eurovia’s invention is called, enables the use of thermal energy reaching the road surface in the form of solar radiation. Heat from the road is collected by a medium flowing inside a coil embedded in the asphalt and then transported by a heat pump to nearby buildings.

The energy obtained in this way can be used to heat eco-friendly housing estates, office complexes, shopping centers, public facilities, and swimming pools. In addition, the system can melt snow and ice on streets or airport runways in winter, while in summer it can help reduce the effects of the urban heat island phenomenon.
